Them's the facts, and i'm stickin' to 'em." so since H2O is the symbol for water, we thought how about.HW2? so what do we call it? first we thought H2O, but it didn't fit into our normal numbering sequence. it has the power of the H2 but the winding style of and HO. during the process of developing the HO's, we learned more about layering and tension so we decided to take that knowledge and see if we could make a tall coiled humbucker that would sound more like an HO but split like an H2. we liked what was happening on the humbucker side of things, but weren't in love with the split sounds. they have shorter coils and an alnico magnet on the bottom. we started making humbucker that were more vintage style, HO's. so it makes good power with low string pull. it has coils that are twice as tall as most humbuckers, like a single coil, and a very weak magnetic field at the strings, but strong in the coil itself. it has a very unconventional magnet and coil structure. The H2 has been a favorite of mine for many years, loved the way it split. i'll try to keep it mostly true, or at least as much as i remember. All cabs (V30/240W or T75/300W) seem to work.Īndy, here's the "word" from the Supreme Commander:

Something about the mid-focused punch of the Anderson just sits perfectly with the Herbert voicing, especially Ch2 +. Pinch harmonics (Zakk, Dime, EVH) are soooo easy to pull off, that I've been "ordered" to settle down on the "squealing"īottom line, you owe it to yourself to play an Anderson through a Diezel - especially a Mahogany TAG with H2's through the Herbert. Whether it's a H2A (atom), H2+ or even an HO2 (lower output H2) on my Cobra, the TAG's just ooooze wood tone while still providing enough treble spark to cut through the mix.

Not surprisingly Doug West/Randy Smith use tom's H3's to voice their amps.Īfter playing the VH4 and Herb today, I noted that the H2's seem to be the best bridge p/up for my Diezels. The difference is that the gain structure on the Diezel is much more transparent (as in dim and 7/9 chords ringing through) than the Rectum-friers/Tremoverbs. IMHO I've hear a lot of the "Boogie-ish" low-mid (but tight - not farty/tubby) in my Herbert. I talked with Andy Wood (VAN Hellion) and we both had the same observation about Tom's p/up's and how well they marry up to the Diezel voicing. So over the last few days I've been noticing more Diezel guys playing the TAG's (jcj recently).
